There are plenty of marketers who will show you ways to build an email list simply by
picking any topic and standing in front of the traffic. But is
it YOUR topic? Is it YOUR
area of expertise? Do you really care about who joins the list, or are you simply
going for numbers? You may get people to opt into a list, but they'll unsubscribe
just as quickly if they find out you're not authentic.
The keys to long-lasting success are two-fold. The first is "permission-based marketing." This
means that you obtain the permission of your prospect to contact them about your business,
and you treat them with great care once you have that permission.
The second is to be authentic: to be the expert you claim to
be and to always
deliver value to your prospects and customers. If you under-promise, and over-deliver,
your subscribers will stick around and buy from you.
